Larry's USB to Serial Adapter/Converter

>More photos: New color AND new insides too!

This is the older version when the chips were BIG - you can find these on eBay for $1.99 (and other places that sell many types of these things). (but wait, there are some sold on eBay that are PURPLE, which are OK!) Heck, one man has "a thousand web sites" he told me on the phone - many of his thousand domains is selling the same stuff - and many different USB-adapters - most at less cost, but he must be so busy I don't know how he could find a minute to help his many thousands of customers. Me, ... I've got just one company (since 1983), just one USB-serial product, and just one web site selling it. Oh well. (whining circa 11/2006 after selling 50k of these over 5 years and supporting every customer, guess I shouldn't whine about the competition. I couldn't support it like I do if I supplied all the millions of units sold - or maybe I could, hmmmm, with 60 Pfrancs in 40 countries helping me.)

and here is the bottom of the prior version of the unit where they put lots of parts that didn't fit on the top! You need lots of parts to do this right! True RS-232 levels for all RS-232 signals! This is really good stuff. I've seen other units that cost $50 which "cheat" the specs and even actually don't work very well either! See the C1, C2, C3, and C4? They run the IC that converts the voltage levels up to both plus 10 volts and minus 10 volts.
But now of course, because all the chips are far smaller they can fit everything on the top of the PCB. Back to main USB page
