May 20th, 2006, a comment from a customer comes in causing a new support effort for a new very cool application : (take it Scott!);
Hi Larry, my name is: Scott Durbin, I spoke with you a week or so ago about your USB to Serial adapter. You may remember me as we talked about the engine managment system I built and installed in my car called Megasquirt (Megasquirt 1 ver. 3.0 to be precise). The software used to tune the car is called Megatune. Anyway, long story short, I purchased the four inch version of your adapter the day I called and I received it just as promised three days later. I wanted you to know that it installed easily and so far it has worked flawlessly. Since I have read that the Megasquirt AND Megatune can be rather picky when it comes to this type of adapter I was pleased to have yours work this well/easy. Thanks again!!! Scott --------- end of message ------- I didn't know this existed, it sure is cool. Check them out at: http://www.megasquirt.info ..... I really love seeing high tech public projects that educate (and build successful businesses) like this.
You know I'm selling my unit for more than many competitors - wow some as low at $15. And I'm sure SOME of them MIGHT work for SOME applications. And I'm very sure that if it does not work for YOUR application that you will not be able to get much help from the place you purchased it from - not because they don't WANT to help their customers and support their products but most likely because they just CAN'T. Why? Because it's a very super complex set of things going one - trying to replace 40 years of RS232 serial port success with these USB adapters is just not easy - just take a look at the USB specification. I've been helping folks solve the problems everyday since the year 2000 and it's getting a little easier now with Windows XP and newer (more USB-serial adapter friendly) application software - but still there are problems that come up that can drive even the most knowledgeble computer expert up a wall. Maybe thats why I'm still in business selling adapters for $30 when others sell them for half that and maybe thats why some major manufactures suggest you buy only my PURPLE USB-SERIAL ADAPTOR, aka USB-G4. mybest, larry, pfranc.com
